I jumped, startled.

“Shhh!” a familiar voice admonished. I turned around. Luca put a finger to his mouth. "Did you hear that too?"

I nodded eagerly.

"Then we should go out there now."

I wanted to agree, but something held me back. This forest didn't like us, one blow after the other followed.

Should we really go out there now, completely defenseless?

My legs didn't seem to share my doubts, for already I was on my way out, pinned close to Luca's heels.

The front door of the bus opened with a slight push. Securely locked.

"Do you know where the scream came from?" Luca looked at me expectantly. I wasn't sure, but thought I saw him from the east.

Luca seemed happy about this answer. "That's where we lost Fitti."

My heart started beating faster. How great would the news be if Fitti showed up ahead of us in the next few moments.

But nobody had shown up yet. Only the wind got stronger, the trees creaked menacingly and with their swinging branches reminded of giant scarecrows that guarded the forest from intruders. We were the invaders who should never set foot in this forest!
